Coming Fall 2025!!!

NCE Seafood School

Do you love eating oysters, shrimp, crabs, or fish? Discover where they come from!

The NCE Seafood School will pair a seasonal educational exhibit on the estuary's role as a nursery for seafood species, with a classroom kitchen for seafood cooking programs and special events.

This exhibit will focus on the importance of water quality in maintaining a healthy estuary ecosystem as well as the habitats of different estuary animals, such as crabs, oysters, shrimp, and other fish. Humans have been harvesting these animals out of these waters for many years, this exhibit will explore how we can manage our harvests for these practices to continue in the future.  â€‹

To make this endeavor a reality, we are asking for your support. To date we have already received $250,000 grant from the state of North Carolina and a challenge grant from the Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Family Foundation of Greenville. Please consider being apart of this inaugural campaign to expand our support of the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula.

The mission of the Estuarium Seafood School is to inspire care for North Carolina’s estuarine ecosystems (Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds), to celebrate the watermen and seafood traditions of this region, and to encourage the sustainability of North Carolina’s commercial and recreational fisheries.
